Kudos to you for using another term, one which I never would have imagined reading before: "a narrative bukakke session." Unarguably a flawed film, trying to shoe-horn in too many subplots and studio mandated "world building" moments, BvS is one of those blockbusters that's way too blocky, and not enough bustery, for the majority of viewers. A magnificent failure, I heard it called. Indeed, it might be a narrative bukakke session but for a knock-down collision of artistry and visual kineticism you'd go a long way to find better.Rodneyhttp://www.fernbyfilms.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-227751790693713235.post-9832877365476580012016-03-31T08:37:33.403-04:002016-03-31T08:37:33.403-04:00Excellent point about the addition of Batman subtr...Excellent point about the addition of Batman subtracting from Superman. This, to me, led to people not really liking his character and I had hopes that the sequel would fix that by giving him more dialogue and make him likeable - I mean, come on, he's Superman. Everyone likes Superman! By adding Batman in so soon they really took that away from him and now he's just going to be part of a team most likely for the rest of his time in the suit. I haven't seen BvS but I will wait till it comes out on Redbox.Phylhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08726532398377237606noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-227751790693713235.post-10454888054997863962016-03-30T11:46:37.650-04:002016-03-30T11:46:37.650-04:00That we are finally getting a Wonder Woman film is...That we are finally getting a Wonder Woman film is a blessing. I wouldn't quite say it took this film to make it possible. Once DC decided to finally go full steam ahead with a universe of their own, a Wonder Woman movie was inevitable because after Batman and Superman, she is their most marketable character. They just used this to introduce her. As for the movie itself, sigh. She was a good part, but not nearly enough to even come close to saving it. When I first heard about this project I can't say I was very optimistic. I think Wonder Woman was more or less the only reason I had any interest at all (and while most viewers seem to agree she was one of the better parts of the film, it sounds like she was not enough to save it). On the bright side, they are at least (finally) making a Wonder Woman film, and it looks like it could be really good, though I think there is probably a few things to say about the fact that it took THIS to make it possible.John Hitchcockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13373653979400552490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-227751790693713235.post-40766632698263815632016-03-29T19:22:05.451-04:002016-03-29T19:22:05.451-04:00Now that I've read a bunch of reviews on it I ...Now that I've read a bunch of reviews on it I see everyone is loving up on some Batffleck. I'm actually glad you mentioned the score because that's one thing I had included in my review. I found Zimmer's score out of sync with the scenes it was assigned to. It felt high tempo in the quieter moments and too slow in the fast-paced moments. Plus I felt he went to the same well a few too many times just like he did in The Dark Knight Rises. I think you hit the nail on the head with your description of Superman. He's way too grumpy! Even grumpier than Batman. This makes their confrontation feel hollow because they're way to similar to have real differences. I think we need to slip Superman a prozak. I generally liked Man of Steel, too, but I agree it wasn't great. As for this being just a theatrical cut, it's two and a half hours long, how much more time does he need to make a decent movie? Plus, I think Zack Snyder is kind of a one-trick pony who wishes to be Hollywood's version of Terry Gilliam. Even though my review for Man of Steel was positive, my opinion about afterwards and kind of seeing it again on TV has been a bit more negative though there are moments that are worthwhile. After all, this is just theatrical cut of the film as we know there's an extended cut coming. Let's see if there is a good film somewhere and if not, let's go shopping for the right tool for me to cut Zack Snyder's balls off. thevoid99https://www.blogger.com/profile/03055459287396592446noreply@blogger.com
