This is one I've recommended to all the mature teens in my life, straight, gay, or somewhere in between.

As I probably mentioned in my Acting Black post, this was my introduction to Kim Wayans since I never saw In Living Color and I've avoided all the Wayans brothers' movies. She clearly showed her mettle here, and I hope she does more dramatic roles. I had hyped it so much in my mind because it took me forever to see it and it kept getting all these great reviews, and then it met every single expectation I had. It's a discussion starter and that's what's needed in a lot of households.

Wayans really did knock it out the park. That final scene is just devastating and, unfortunately, rang so so true to what has happened in lots of families. I totally agree that the Wayans should spread their wings more often. I think they're afraid of losing the core audience if they start changing their brand.Dellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05634519605152190304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-227751790693713235.post-39339147965767846922016-04-11T00:07:37.489-04:002016-04-11T00:07:37.489-04:00It's been a few years since I've seen this...It's been a few years since I've seen this as I think it's an important film for LGBT audiences. It could've been a lot of things but the way it was approached made it more interesting. I also enjoyed Kim Wayans' performance as it was a revelation as I was expecting her to do something that could've been a caricature. Instead, she knocked it out of the park and brought something that was very different. Notably in the last scene she's in where it is clear she isn't ready to accept her daughter for what she is but isn't going to close the door on her. I hope she does more roles like that as I think it's time for the Wayans family to do something else rather than cater to the lowest common denominator. thevoid99https://www.blogger.com/profile/03055459287396592446noreply@blogger.com
