Since it's still the very beginning of a brand new year, I think it's the perfect time for this blogathon, my first, maybe the first one period, of 2015. It's called the In with the New Blogathon. Of course, when coming in with the new, that implies the old going out. In this case, the new year is really just a new version of the old year. You know, January 1 to December 31 all over again. Hopefully, the new version will be better than the old one, right?
In movies, however, we tend to look upon the new version of things with disdain or, at best, cautious optimism. By new version, I am of course talking about remakes and reimaginings. Let's be honest, we have good reason to be skeptical of these movies. They often pale in comparison to the original. Every once in a while, though, one comes along that blows its predecessor out of the water. For instance, is there anyone who thinks the 1925 silent flick The Wizard of Oz is better than the 1939 reimagining starring Judy Garland?

Here's where you come in.
To participate in this blogathon you merely have to create a post comparing two movies, telling us why a remake or reimagining is better than the original. There are a few very simple rules, of course.
1. No sequels or prequels. That means even if the movie in question has an entirely different cast it doesn't count if it positions itself as such. That means Superman Returns, which sets its timeline in a way that makes it a sequel to Superman II, is not eligible. On the other hand, Man of Steel is since it retells our hero's origin story.
2. Create a post by Sunday February 8, 2015. Leave a link to your post in the comments section below. On Monday the 9th, I'll feature links to all those who have participated.
3. Use one of the banners in this post or feel free to create one of your own. Just be sure to include the name of the blogathon and that it's being hosted by Dell on Movies.

DeleteThis is a cool idea although... I need some time to think about this. There's a lot of great originals and some great remakes though it's hard to see which remake is actually better than the original based on the films that I've seen.
