The Most Horrorble Time of the Year!

A few of you have actually been here during prior Octobers. If you have, then you know that this is when I forsake all of the cinematic universe with the exception of the horror genre. And I go hard for 31 straight days. It all starts at midnight tonight. If you want to know exactly how long, keep an eye on the countdown above.

As usual, we'll kick things off with a horror classic. Don't worry, it's not all ancient stuff, though. We'll hit some more current fare, too. We'll also try to hit horror from every angle. We'll hit some haunted houses, run from some slashers, twist our mind psychologically, and we'll even get to have a few laughs. We'll throw in a list or two. This year, we've added a few new ingredients to our witch's brew to switch things up a bit. The Thursday Movie Picks that have become a popular feature around here, all have a horror slant to them. We're also hosting the Slasher Cast-a-thon, where bloggers get to create the cast for their very own slasher flick. Details to come this weekend.

I hope you'll join me every day this month. If you do, leave your two cents in the comments section. If you're lucky, you'll come across a movie that will have looking like the couple pictured above.

  1. That's interesting. I think I used up most of my "Halloween Horror" options in September, but there should be room for some other horror-themed work during October. Outside of two articles I currently have in draft form that both deal with the subject of cosmic horror (a very fascinating sub-genre of horror that I would strongly recommend), I do have three articles dealing with Cronenberg films, the first of which is scheduled to be published this weekend.

I considered doing a horror-themed blogathon, but at the moment I'm looking at two for after October, which includes the one I promised that was inspired by your Back to School Blogathon and one I've been considering about homosexuality on film for December, so I decided against it. Naturally, I'm kinda excited about the Slasher Cast-A-Thon. I'll have to start thinking about who I'd want to pick for a slasher movie.

    1. Glad you mentioned Cronenberg. At some point this month, I'll be reviewing Scanners. A couple years ago I reviewed Videodrome.

Looking forward to your articles on him and your Blogathons.

  2. Hmmm, well I'm not fond of horror or slasher flicks so I'm afraid I won't be around much in October, sorry!

  3. That's great that you are doing a month long event for Halloween, I'll follow along. By the way, I host a horror challenge on the Movie Madness Forums every year if you are interested in joining in. We're always looking for new members to help liven the place up, the goal is to watch 100 horror flicks in 31 days, as well as other goodies. Prizes to be awarded to those who watch and participate the most at the end of the month.

    1. I saw that (and the post on your site). I'm pretty much set with what I'm watching this year. And I know there's no way I have any shot at 100 movies in a month. I will be following along your progress, though.

  4. I'm doing one for October as well though it would also feature some thrillers and some weird-ass cult films as it would relate to one of my Blind Spots for the year.

    1. Very cool. I'll be sure to keep an eye on it. All of these aren't strictly horror, as there are some horror related comedies slipped in.

  5. Look forward to what you have in store for us! I guess you've already organized all the films you'll be seeing? I haven't except a few reviews in my queue. I did horror marathons the last two Octobers and enjoyed catching up. This year I'll see a few more. I still have over a 100 on my horror watchlist: http://letterboxd.com/mas365/list/yet-to-watch-horror/

    1. I've almost all of them organized, saved some room in case I come across something else interesting. I'll check out your list, maybe there's some overlap which would be cool.
